Objectives
To provide through Jindabyne's unique structure, accommodation and support to people in need, such as in disaster situations.
I have been speaking to Karen Hazel from the equestrian centre they are doing a animal donation drive. Anyone who has goods to care for any animals - ie food/collars/pet goods can drop of any item to Westpac bank Jindabyne or the equestrian centre - these goods will then be transported down to the appropriate people in Victoria in two weeks time. If anyone can help that would be great.

Thanks to everyone who helped or donated stuff. Below is a list from Margaret Baguley the contact at Diamond Valley who is looking after a number of families in the community centre (this is where a lot of people were evacuated to) if any one can add any of this stuff to our goods that would be great. Director of Public Housing Client Services were not in need of emergency housing at present, however in colder weather they may take Jindabyne up on the offer.
“The authorities were overwhelmed by the generosity of the town – it was a fantastic offer, however they would like to leave it open in event of a weather change.”
Robyn Nolan: Authorities were informed of Jindabyne’s infrastructure. It would be either Hume or Beechworth Shires that would take up the offers.
The available accommodation could be used as respite for fire fighters and emergency services.

Jindabyne Cares.
The Snowy Mountains Community of Jindabyne believes that it is in a unique position to assist many of the victims of the Victorian Bushfires.
Jindabyne provides a huge amount of seasonal accommodation for skiers and workers during the winter season but a large portion of this accommodation remains vacant during the off season.
“The amount of housing potentially available in Jindabyne would allow an entire community to be relocated and kept together while they recover and sort out their lives over the next few months.” Mrs Jane Straney told a meeting in Jindabyne last night. Mrs Straney, chair of Jindabyne Cares, a committee set up to investigate and administer the plan, pointed out that this accommodation consists mainly of fully self contained apartments and could have families walk in to them tomorrow and take up residence.
Robbie Nolan of Raine & Horne Snowy Mountains said that within a few hours of being sent an email requesting the donation of a few months free use of apartments, owners had already offered close to 30 properties.
It was made very clear to the meeting that this offer to the victims could not just be an offer of accommodation but has to be an offer by Jindabyne to take this group into the community and give to them the support and help that they need to start their healing process. “This has to be a community effort.” Mrs Straney said. “We have to take them into our hearts, not just our homes.” She added.
Representatives of Education, Health, Churches, Service Club and many other groups attended the meeting and acknowledged the extent of the task ahead. It was also recognised that Jindabyne has the ability to expand a lot of services during winter but this year they may be needed earlier than usual.
A web site is being constructed to help with the task of communicating with the community but people wishing to be involved can call 02 64562999 or email
